Swimming the English Channel...in Kuwait?!

Hope everyone is having an awesome August!

I've decided to swim the English Channel. Since I'm in Kuwait in the desert, this may present some kind of challenge. But, MWR [Morale Welfare and Recreation] has solved that problem for us by creating a "Swim the English Channel" challenge in our pool [remember, I'm a Fobbit].
The Swimming the Channel Challenge began last Wednesday, and although MWR gives us 45 days to complete this challenge my goal is to swim the entire 808 laps [that is 1616 lengths or 21 miles] in 7-10 days. Currently, I've swam 512 laps [1024 lengths or 13.29 miles] and have about 296 more [appox 7.78 miles]. I try to swim about 126 laps [224 lengths or 3.27 miles] a day, but I got in a few more on my day off. For those of you trying to figure out the math...it's a little tricky because our pool is an odd size.
As of Saturday 10 people [only one female] had already finished the entire 21 miles! As long as there are race t-shirts left, I'm in no rush to finish within the first few days. But, there is no reason to prolong the agony as well.
I'll post pix when I finish the race. So far, I've gone through three pairs of goggles and am working on my 4th!
Everything else is going well, as we all continue to get into a routine. Below are some pix of our 1st days here with brief descriptions beside them. I will also continue posting more pictures later.

The tents we stayed in when we 1st arrived. Don't let the outside sandstorm fool you, these are VERY comfortable!

This is our wave when we 1st got off the buses [after the flight to Arifjan]. You can still probably smell us on this picture, we look very ragged here, but we clean up nicely.
